China is among the first countries using coating with a history of thousands of years. However, in the long past years, application of coating in China is only limited to processing and use of the Chinese lacquers as well as its use together with China wood oil. Until the year of 1915 had China started its industrialized production of coatings. Since 1950s, China has experienced the historical processes such as the establishment of fundamental coating industry system, rapid growth of the coating varieties, change of raw material routes, renovation of coating varieties and development of pigment industry, etc.

Currently, China has more than 8,000 coating manufacturers with annual total output of nearly 2 million tons. It has ranked among the top four in the world with complete 18 coating varieties.

Since its founding, ECEC has been the core engineering company during the fundamental construction of China's coating industry. ECEC's rich experience in this field has been proven on nearly 100 coating or pigment production plants, including almost all the large-scale coating plants in China. Typical projects include Shanghai Zhenhua 10,000t/a Alkyd Resin Plant, 20,000t/a Acrylic Resin Project of Beijing Paint Factory, 10,000t/a of various high quality paints of Nippon Paint (China) Co., Ltd., Nanjing Huacai 30,000t/a Latex Paint Revamping Project, Nippon Paint (China) Co., Ltd., Relocation Project of Suzhou Color-Way Enterprise Development Co., Ltd. etc. In the past four decades, in order to continuously develop new varieties and new processes of paints, ECEC carried out mass technical development work by integrating number of universities and research institutes, of which the developing the 10,000t/a level alkyd resin complete plant and optimizing of coating agitation series equipment were awarded the Gold Prize for the remarkable achievements in Science and Technology Invention and Innovation by National Bureau in China Technological Information Promotion System of the United Nations (TIPS). ECEC has made outstanding contributions to the development and progress of China’s coating industry.

Raw material route:
The alkyd resin adopts solvent process and heat medium heating. The refined vegetable oil reacts with polybasic alcohol for alcoholysis reaction and then with polyprotic acid for esterification and polycondensation reactions. After the reactions, the products are obtained after dilution, filtration and packaging.
